Six Home Essentials for Active Colorado Residents

Trumark expanded its operations to Colorado in September 2021, and has since developed two beautiful master planned communities in the Windsor area, Pelican Shores at Water Valley and RainDance National. Colorado has grown in popularity amongst young families due to its low unemployment rate, high median income, and quality schools. Aside from the opportunity to enjoy a great work-life balance, the state is also known to be highly active. Biking, hiking and skiing are popular with Colorado residents, and our two new communities offer easy access to these activities and others, such as fishing, golfing, and paddle boarding.

Despite its manifold attractions, living in Colorado does come with a few challenges to consider. The state has the highest altitude of any US state in the lower 48, and Colorado also has some intense winters, which can be a bit of a shock if you are used to the warmer weather of the West Coast. We have put together a list of essentials for Colorado living, no matter the season!

Quality Water Bottles
Altitude is the most important thing to consider when planning a move to Colorado. Higher altitudes mean drier conditions, so it’s important to stay hydrated, especially when taking part in any outdoor activities. Carrying re-fillable water bottles with you wherever you go is a great way to make sure everyone in the family is drinking enough water. Get the kids involved by having them decorate their water bottles with stickers or acrylic paint to make it their own!

Winter Clothing and Sturdy Warm Boots
It’s finally time for West Coast transplants to put those cozy sweaters and beanies to good use! In Windsor, where Pelican Shores and RainDance National are located, the average low temperature dips to a chilly 15 degrees in the winter. Layers are incredibly important for Colorado residents. Make sure to invest in a good winter coat, long underwear and thick warm socks. Good boots will keep your feet warm and dry, and help prevent falls while you're enjoying one of the many amazing outdoor activities near Pelican Shores and RainDance National.

Hiking Gear
Colorado is an outdoor lover’s paradise, and there is no shortage of beautiful hiking trails surrounding RainDance National and Pelican Shores. Hiking poles can be a great buy if you are concerned about stability when taking on advanced trails. They also help reduce the impact on your legs, knees, and ankles, especially when going downhill. A hiking backpack that can hold your water bottles, snacks, and other safety equipment is an absolute must before heading out on any trail. And don’t forget your camera, to capture all of Colorado’s natural beauty.

Golf Clubs
Colorado is full of beautiful golf courses, including Pelican Lakes Golf Course with its 27 magnificent holes of golf! Plus, getting out on the green is a great way to relax and unwind. Choose the right clubs for your game, height, and the demands of your preferred course. You can also visit pro shops, like the one at Pelican Lakes, if you are looking for proper equipment but aren’t sure where to begin.

Life Jackets
Summer in Colorado means water sports. Whether you love boating and kayaking at Carter Lake or fishing and paddle boarding at Horsetooth Reservoir, life jackets are essential for keeping your family safe on the water. Choose ones that fit in a comfortably snug manner and wear them every time you are on (or in) the water. Lastly, be sure you check with the parks you are visiting about where and when they require life jackets, so that everyone in your group is well-prepared for a day of fun.
