Investing in the Best Version of You for 2022

It’s the beginning of a new year, and you know what that means—New Year’s resolutions! Whether you’re planning on heading to the gym more often, reading more books, or even purchasing a new home, most resolutions involve trying to better ourselves, in one way or another. If you’re up for the challenge of trying to be a better you in 2022, we’ve got some ideas on how to stay focused and slay your goals.

Getting Your Gym On

This is your year to stick with your workout routine. Although you may be tempted to hit the ground running by going to the gym every single day and pushing yourself to the limit every time you exercise, it’s better to keep your new routine doable. Sure, you might be able to maintain your enthusiasm for the first month or so, but the truth is too much, too soon is generally not a sustainable practice. Pretty soon, you will feel like you don’t have enough time or energy for a daily two-hour workout. This isn’t a sign that you should give up, rather it’s your body telling you that you have been pushing yourself too hard. It’s why gyms are flooded in January and are back to their regular crowd in February.

To keep from burning yourself out, fitness experts recommend that you start with a more manageable workout routine, one that combines both cardio and strength training. Picking up yoga can be a great place to start, since it is enjoyable, low-impact, and easy to fit into your daily routine. Taking on 20 minute HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workouts can also be an excellent idea. Although HIIT might sound daunting, you can easily modify the workouts to fit your own pace. Here’s one of our favorite 20 minute HIIT videos to help get you going.

Read Like You Used To

Plenty of us were avid readers as children and teens, but have seen our reading habits taper out when we made our way into adulthood. Now is the time to take a break from the constant feed of online media, pick up a book that peaks your interest, and let your imagination flow freely. Not only does reading entertain us, introduce us to different worldviews, and make us more informed, it’s also been scientifically linked to improved physical and mental health. You may have previously tried getting absorbed into a story, but ended up putting the book down a few pages in. Don’t let that discourage you! Instead, become invested in your next book by following these tips:

Choose the right book. Don’t read that book your friend gave you months ago that you have been neglecting. Look for something that inspires, interests, and/or delights you. Goodreads is a great place to begin your search for the perfect book for you.
Find your format. There are a few ways to experience a book, and you need to discern which one works best for you. Your choices are, essentially, classic paper books; e-readers, like the Kindle and Nook; and audio books.
Build a better reading atmosphere. It can be incredibly easy to get distracted while reading, especially when you’re getting back into the practice. Help yourself out by finding a quiet, comfortable place to read in your home or community. It’s also a fantastic idea to silence your phone and/or leave it in another room, so you’re not tempted to pick it up and scroll through Instagram.

Discover Your Dream Home

Our overall happiness and sense of contentment have a lot to do with our living situation. Finding the perfect home for you and your loved ones makes life more enjoyable. That’s why it is a great idea to add “finding your dream home” to your list of goals for 2022.

The best way to begin looking for a home this year is to be prepared for what lies ahead. For starters, you should spend 30 minutes to an hour every day (or every weekend) researching available homes, communities, and builders to gain a grasp of the current market. We also recommend learning as much as you can about the homebuying process. Luckily, we’ve written blog posts about mortgage interest rates, the construction phases of a new home, and the most common questions our Sales Agents are asked.

If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to buy a gorgeous new home in Southern California, Northern California, or Colorado, the best place to start looking is with Trumark Homes. Feel free to contact us with any questions about our communities and available homes. We hope your 2022 is already off to a great start!
