Do you prefer a neutral color palette or a vibrant look in your space? What about art choices—do you like dimensional photos or fun decals to make your interior pop? Making your Trumark home an absolutely perfect reflection of your personal style can be quite the journey. Gallery walls are great for creating a well-balanced atmosphere, while still tailoring your interior decor to your personal aesthetic. Our friends at Chameleon Design shared some of the tools you need to help bring the visions you have for your space to life in the most creative yet elegant fashion. Follow our process for creating a gallery wall, and you will have the most envied gallery look in no time.
Find The Perfect Imagery
First, gather all of the pieces that feature images and concepts you enjoy. From photography, paintings, and drawings, to three-dimensional items such as vases, letters and mixed media compilations, all are great examples of imagery that you can turn into your own masterpiece. If something speaks to you or makes you smile, add it to your mood board. Learning what it is that you like about a piece, be it a color, shape or the actual composition, can aid in settling on a theme. The more personal it is, the more you will fall in love with the finished result.
Find Your Balance and Mix Your Elements
Selecting images is easy, but what makes it all work together to create a beautiful gallery wall? This is where a good theme comes in handy. Themes can be based on visual commonalities between all of the pieces, but they can also be based on abstract elements, like shapes or colors. What colors do your pieces have in common that you like the most? Do all of your photos have black frames? Are your pieces two- or three-dimensional, or a mix of both? Finding the one thing that brings your vision together will help you create the balance you need for your gallery wall. To broaden the look, implement a few eclectic pieces such as neutral tones, organic shapes, and different textures.
Dive In and Create Your Layout
Among all your pieces, find the biggest one and work with it first. When finding the right place for your large item, it’s important to note that it does not have to be centered. In fact, placing the largest piece off-center to the rest of the compilation helps make room for pieces of all shapes and sizes and creates a more natural and organic feeling. Of course, if you enjoy a more harmonious and structured feel to your decor, keeping your frames on the same line will unify the entire look.
