Bowers Kidseum

1802 N Main St, Santa Ana, CA 92706 (Hours: 10am-4pm, Tuesday-Sunday)

Satisfy your kids’ curiosity by bringing them to the Kidseum, where they will learn about fascinating cultures from all over the world. Bowers Kidseum is perfect for pre-school to early elementary school children. They will get to learn about world art in a fun, interactive environment. The Kidseum offers all-day face painting and live story telling. After being transported through time in the Green Screen Time Machine, your kids will get the chance to dig up ancient artifacts in an Egyptian tomb and create glow-in-the-dark art in the Glow Cave. Founded in 1994, the Kidseum is the only cultural art-based children’s center in Orange County. The Kidseum offers free admission for Santa Ana residents every Sunday. Admission for children ages 2+ is $10 and children under 2 are free.

Santa Ana Zoo

1801 E Chestnut Ave, Santa Ana, CA 92701 (Hours: 10am-4pm, everyday)

The Santa Ana Zoo features over 120 different species and 350 animals within a 20-acre lot. Visit the anteaters, guanacos, and rheas at the zoo’s Tierra de las Pampas exhibit that celebrates the Pampas Grasslands of South America. Rest your feet and hop onto the Zoofari Express for a train ride that travels throughout the Crean Family Farm and the northern part of the zoo. At the Crean Family Farm, kids can feed goats and milk a replica cow while learning about daily life on an Orange County farm. Take a ride on the Conservation Carrousel where each rider receives an educational collector’s card describing an endangered animal and why it is endangered. For more attractions, check out the Santa Ana Zoo website. Admission for seniors and children ages 3+ is $7 on weekdays and $9 on weekends. Adult admission is $10 on weekdays and $12 on weekends. The Santa Ana Zoo also offers free admission to Santa Ana residents on the third Sunday of each month.

Discovery Cube Orange County

2500 N. Main Street, Santa Ana, CA  92705 (Hours: 10am-5pm, everyday)

Take a break from the craziness of crowded theme parks and head over to the Discovery Cube, located right off of the I-5 freeway. One popular exhibit in the Discovery Cube is Mission Control, where kids will get the chance to land a rover on Mars, send a satellite up to space, or dock at the International Space Station. At the Boeing Rocket Lab, your little rocket scientists can experience a simulated rocket launch in the Blast-Off Zone. In the Discovery Market, your small green superheroes will take on the Green Challenge to shop for sustainable foods. The Discovery Cube provides a variety of interactive learning activities that will keep your little scientists busy all day. Admission is free for children 2 and under. Admission for children ages 3-14 is $13, and adult admission is $18.

Funtopia at Sender One Climbing

1441 S. Village Way, Santa Ana, CA 92705 (Hours:  10:30am-8pm, M-F; 9am-8pm, Saturdays; 9am-7pm, Sundays)

This interactive climbing center is perfect for your little thrill-seekers who can’t seem to stay still. The entire center’s climbing walls use an auto-belay rope system which automatically retracts the cable attached to climbers during ascent and controls speed of descent in the event of a fall. Admission includes access to the giant slide where climbers can hold onto a handle bar that gradually pulls them up a slide and climbers can let go to slide down whenever they’re ready. What’s great about Funtopia is that parents can watch and help their children, or even join in on the fun! Admission is $25 for climbers ages 5-13 (includes rental helmet, harness, and one hour of climbing). Per Funtopia’s safety requirements, children must be at least 40lbs and wear closed toed shoes. Make sure to fill out an online waiver and make reservations ahead of time.
