Giving Back Makes an Impact

All people and organizations, including businesses, have the responsibility to help make the world a better place. At Trumark Homes, we are dedicated to building better communities for people and families right here at home, and seek the opportunity to improve lives around the world. In our search we discovered charity:water, an organization making real, transparent change alongside safe drinking water to communities in need. Beyond charity:water’s mission, the organization has been a thought leader in the non-profit space, providing real transparency in terms of where donor gifts are placed. At Trumark Homes we too believe in being transparent with our communities, and so with our values aligned we have committed to providing a well for every 50 homes we build. These wells will provide safe drinking water to communities, where water is needed most to support growing economies.

In an effort to have donor transparency, charity:water allocates 100% of public donations to fund their water projects – which mean for every dollar we give, there is a direct correlation to community rather than administrative impact. Donations are  directed to the field, from private donors, foundations and sponsors, like Trumark Homes. The organization also provides exact GPS coordinates of the water wells, so it is easy to map the impact donations are making.

In the United States, many people take safe water for granted. However, more than 663 million people on the planet don’t have access to clean and safe drinking water.

Through our partnership with charity:water, Trumark has funded 17 wells to help approximately 3,900 people receive access to clean and safe drinking water in Tigray, Ethiopia and Malawi. Having clean water can prevent unnecessary deaths, save time and improve health. It feels good as a business to be able to transform the lives of others in a positive way, and we plan to continue to help bring clean water to even more communities in need.

Every day that goes by without helping another is an opportunity missed. There are several things you can do as an individual in your community as well, to give back. If you don’t have the funds to donate and support a cause, then consider other alternatives such as volunteering your time or perhaps helping to raise funds for a specific charity or service. Volunteering a few hours after work or one day on the weekends can make a pretty big impact. You may find many other benefits as well, such as learning a new skill set, meeting new people, gaining a new perspective and boosting your self-esteem. It’s a win-win for everybody!

Even if you do something small, that is far better than doing nothing at all. Our like-minded partnership with charity:water has allowed us to deliver on our philanthropic commitments while shining a spotlight on the water crisis and doing our part to help improve communities around the world.

House Hunting: Four Tips on How to Find the Perfect Home

When you are looking to purchase your dream home, house hunting can be both fun yet perhaps slightly overwhelming. There are so many choices and things to consider when on the hunt. But if you are keen on identifying exactly what you want and are ready to do some heavy research, you will not only zoom in on the home you want, but also understand the value in the price.

Here are top considerations to take into account when house hunting for the perfect home:

  1. Do your research before you begin the house hunt

Proper research on the type of home you want is the foundation that determines what you get in the end. Based on whether you are looking for a single or growing family home, list out the features that you want most. Ask yourself which of them are a must-have and which are not. Your dream home should have all the necessities that prompt you to never make a decision of moving again. Zero down on three to four neighborhoods that you would love to live in based on livability, commute time, schools, crime rate and recreation activities, among others. Then visit to get a feel of how homes in those neighborhoods are averagely priced.

  1. Location, location, location

Location is everything when searching for the perfect home to buy. You can always do renovations to increase the value of your home, but you can never change its location. When house hunting, survey the area around your potential new home to see if it’s comfortable for you. Drive around to see if there is excessive noise or if there are any planned developments that could impact your property (negatively or positively). Find out about the area’s school district and learn about the amenities or recreation activities available within the locality. Also consult with the neighborhood’s Homeowners Association to see if their rules and guidelines are pleasant to you.

  1. Think about remodeling

When house hunting, you may not always find a perfect home within your budget. But if your budget is not that big and you still find a good house with the potential of being your perfect home, think about buying it and making the necessary remodels on it with time. Painting, installing new wood floors, proper landscaping, bathroom and kitchen remodeling, and adding new light fixtures could turn the house into a perfect home.

  1. Get help from a Realtor®

Help from a professional who knows the key aspects of the real estate industry is vital. A Realtor® knows where to search, how to do it easily, and where to get the best deals on homes. Talk to a trusted agent and tell them your tastes, preferences and needs. They will most likely have a home in mind that they can recommend to you already. Even if they don’t, they have the connections to get you a perfect home in a matter of days.

House hunting can be a really fun experience overall. Just be prepared, do your research and be patient. You soon will discover your dream home where you and your family can live for years to come.

The Benefits of Becoming a Homeowner

Almost everyone desires to buy a home one day, but it is no small purchase. While the sticker shock can be overwhelming, it’s important to remember that a home can be one of the most valuable investments you can make in the course of your life. It also comes with a host of key benefits.  Read on to discover several of the key benefits of becoming a homeowner!

  1. Buying New Provides Several Advantages

There is no investment in renting. You may dream of owning a home someday, but it’s only natural to also wonder if the home will appeal to the next house hunter. Choosing to purchase or build a new home in a location where land value goes up, offers buyers several advantages. When a buyer purchases a new home, they know how the home was made and understand the history of the home. If a buyer chooses to purchase an existing home, they are forced to rely on the words of others as to how the property was maintained. New homes will also feature the latest technology and design elements built in, which makes the house all the more attractive to future buyers.

  1. Owning A Home Provides Numerous Tax Benefits

The government understands that purchasing homes drives the economy because companies and stores tend to set up in residential areas where they can find employees and customers. This means that the government provides a significant tax break for people who purchase homes. Many people don’t know that the interest on a home mortgage is tax deductible. As most homeowners have to take out a sizeable mortgage to pay for their house, this can result in a very large deduction that saves people a significant amount of money on their taxes.

  1. Take Control of the Living Space

Anyone who has rented homes in multiple locations has undoubtedly had a bad experience somewhere. Maybe the apartment complex didn’t allow pets or wouldn’t give their tenants the pick of their preferred cable provider. All of these problems disappear when buyers purchase a home. People can choose to do whatever they wish to the living space and select whichever cable or internet provider they want. Because homeowners typically want to stay in their house for a while, they will work hard to make that living space their own. This factor of ownership control is something that apartment living lacks, making home ownership in comparison all the more personal.

  1. Numerous Social Benefits

One of the best benefits of home ownership is the relationships you can develop with your neighbors. While many residents who live in apartments resent their neighbors because they share walls with them, those who purchase a home often become very good friends with their neighbors. A variety of social opportunities – kid playdates, cookouts, or visits to the community pool together – are all convenient ways to develop friendships with your fellow homeowners. Although home ownership comes with the sense of home you cultivate for your own family, it is also perfect for those looking to become involved in a community.
