Going Green with Home Decor

The word is out and green is in! “Greenery” to be exact, named the Pantone Color of the Year for 2017. The company describes it as “a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew.”  The green color also represents a growing movement around protecting nature. That’s a movement we can get behind, but as Kermit once said, “It’s not always easy being green.”

Assuming not everyone wants to rush out at once to paint their house this color, there are some smaller home décor updates that you can make to keep your home on trend.

With greenery being chosen as the color of the year, brands will start following suit and that includes housewares. Get ready to start seeing some appliances in this eye-catching hue. If you’ve always dreamed of having a green refrigerator, blender or stove, they may become more popular then you think.

Starting small is a good first option. Make changes to items that can easily be transformed such as pillows, throws, blankets, towels and rugs. If you want to go a little further consider reviving your room with the color of the year curtains.

If you’re green with envy, you may be ready to try larger investments. Greenery painted accent walls, tiles in the kitchen or bathroom or a new piece of accent furniture would add a nice pop of color that is oh-so on trend. Keep in mind the appropriate pairings with this shade. The experts say it pairs well with neutrals, brights, deeper shades, pastels, metallic and even the Pantone Color of the Year 2016, Rose Quartz and Serenity.

Finally, if you believe being green extends to environmental practices and not decorating ideas, but are open to a small pop of green, try painting a door or mailbox. Be prepared for your neighbors to get jealous of how on trend you are.

What do you think of Greenery? Are you ready to welcome this nature-inspired color into your home?
